Refills and requests

Automatic refills

Your prescription may be eligible to enroll in our automatic refill program. Just choose a start date, and Optum® Home Delivery will take care of setting up your automatic refills for you. If a prescription is eligible, the prescription details page will display an auto refill section where you can enroll. You can also sign up from the auto refill section of your account page.

Some prescriptions may not be eligible. For example:

  • Short‑term medication, like antibiotics
  • Prescriptions that require frequent changes
  • Controlled substances or medications under regulatory restrictions
  • Specialty medications

How it works

When it’s time to refill your prescription, Optum Home Delivery will:

  • Contact you at your preferred communication method to let you know your order has been filled and is getting ready to ship
  • Bill your payment method on file when the order has shipped
  • Ship your medication to your preferred address based on your prescription, and may provide up to a 3-month supply when available
  • Allow you to postpone or cancel your automatic refills

Some states may require annual consent to enroll and remain enrolled in the program. For more information, view terms and conditions here.

Selecting an auto-refill date

After you enroll in the program, you can choose when you want your prescriptions to be refilled. You’ll also be able to view or edit the shipping address and payment method that will be used for your automatically reoccurring refills each month.

Note: Your chosen date indicates when your refill is scheduled to be processed, not the date on which you’ll receive the medication. Unless otherwise notified, you should expect to receive your prescription 2–5 business days after your order is processed.

Edit your auto-refill date

As long as your order has not been processed yet, you can edit your next scheduled automatic refill from your prescription details page. If you need to adjust an order that is already in progress, please contact us. The auto-refill date can only be adjusted to dates on or after your prescription is eligible for refill. If you need to edit the date, you can return to this screen from prescriptions at any time.

Managing your prescriptions

Whether you need to fill, refill or renew a prescription, you can manage your medication from your prescriptions page. You’ll be notified if you need to take further action.

Prescription information

You’ll be able to find your prescription details — including name, form, dose and supply listed on your prescriptions page.

Your prescription status, located at the bottom of your prescription details card, indicates what stage your prescription is currently in and when you may need to take action to receive it.

3 easy steps

Placing an order for one of your prescriptions is simple:

1. Get started

Select Optum Home Delivery at checkout or transfer your current medication from your prescription details page.

2. Get it filled

After Optum Home Delivery receives your order, they will reach out to your prescriber or pharmacy to get your prescription.

3. Get it delivered

After your prescriber or pharmacy sends your prescription, your medication should arrive at your door within 3–5 business days.

Shipping options

Your shipping address may differ from your primary address, which is usually the address on file with your insurance plan.

Prescriber approval

Your prescriptions may require provider approval if they are being transferred to Optum Home Delivery, you’re out of refills or if you’re requesting an entirely new prescription. If this is the case, Optum Home Delivery will inform you when you place your order, and they will reach out to your prescriber to get their approval.

Types of shipping

Optum Home Delivery offers standard or urgent shipping. Standard shipping is always free for Optum members. If you need your medication faster, you may be able to choose urgent shipping at an additional cost. Depending on your location, the cost of urgent shipping may vary. Some orders may arrive in multiple shipments.

Note: Optum Home Delivery ships to all U.S. states and all territories.

More fill options

If you want to place an order for medication that is ready to refill or need more refills, doing so is as easy as checking out at your favorite online store.

Schedule refills one at a time

If you’d prefer to schedule your fills individually rather than signing up for the automatic refill program, simply select a specific scheduled fill date for prescriptions not enrolled in auto refill. You’ll need to schedule a new fill date for each refill to receive your order.

Refill over the phone

Want to talk to a human? You can order your prescriptions over the phone, contact Optum Home Delivery to place an order or speak to a pharmacist.

Auto refill terms of use

Before enrolling in the automatic refill program, you'll need to read and accept these Terms and Conditions. If you withdraw your consent after enrolling, all enrolled medications will be removed from the auto refill program.
